The benefice of Combe St
Nicholas with Wambrook was created in 1974 and was held by the vicar of
Combe together with the benefice of Whitestaunton. Combe was then absorbed
into the benefice of St. Mary’s, Chard, with the vicar, Revd Tony
Woodward, being licensed in 2008 as "Priest in Charge" of Combe St
Nicholas. Following his retirement the Revd Sue Tucker was similarly
licensed in February 2010.
In 2010 the Revd Sue Tucker
was appointed as the first incumbent of the new benefice of St Mary’s,
Chard, Combe St Nicholas, Wambrook and Whitestaunton, their constituent
parishes remaining distinct. Revd Tucker was licensed as priest in charge
of Combe St. Nicholas.
Revd Val Hoare, who spent most
of her curacy with St Mary's, is to be Associate Vicar when she is
licensed in November 2010.
