Racehorse Re-homing Centre

Racehorse Re-homing is based at stables at Pole Rue, Combe St. Nicholas. Tessa and Clive Westlake who have lived in the village for many years run the centre. It is a registered charity, No. 1111160.

It is a small rehabilitation centre, dedicated to the future well being of the ex-racehorse. The slower more relaxed pace of country life has a wonderful effect of calming even the most highly-strung athlete. Most of our horses have been gifted to the centre, direct from the trainers, eliminating the possibility of them falling into the hands of the inexperienced. There are many trainers and owners that are deeply concerned for the future of these horses that have served them well over the years. There are others who are not.

All future homes are checked thoroughly and all prospective riders are required to spend at least one month riding in all aspects. Prospective careers are required to provide a veterinary referee. Our main aim is to match the horse with the rider as well as the rider to the horse. The horses are continually being monitored by either us or the ILPH (International League for the Protection of Horses) with whom we work very closely.
