Combe St. Nicholas Parish Hall

In 1912 the Parish Hall in Underway was erected, chiefly through the efforts of the late Mr. R. Buston, at a cost of £400, another room being added to it in 1926. The Church owns the Hall. It is rented by the Hall Trustees who pay a peppercorn rent. The Trustees are responsible for maintenance, repairs and for the letting of the Hall.

Parish Hall 3.jpg (18788 bytes)A number of items are displayed at the Hall, including a memorial to the men of the parish who died in the 2nd World War, a memorial commemorating the marriage of the Prince of Wales to Lady Diana Spencer donated by the Young Farmers and a tapestry showing parish scenes. The latter was executed by ladies of the parish and presented in April 2000.

The Hall is managed by a committee which comprises four elected members and the representatives of those nonParish Hall 2.jpg (19292 bytes) commercial activities who regularly use the Hall. The election of the elected Members and the confirmation of the Representatives occurs annually at the AGM, which was held in 2007 on April 26th in the Hall after public notice. All these automatically, at the moment, become Managing Trustees. At the first meeting of the Committee, held immediately after the AGM, the Officers are Parish Hall 4.jpg (16139 bytes) elected from the Committee. They are the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Hon. Secretary and Hon. Treasurer. The Annual Accounts are presented at the AGM, having been inspected by an independent person. The Committee is always involved in rolling programmes of repairs and refurbishments. There are four Committee meetings per year, generally in April following the AGM, July, December and February. The day-to-day Management is devolved to the Officers and Elected Members. These meetings are reported to the full Committee who ratify decisions.
