MINUTES of the COMBE ST.NICHOLAS PARISH COUNCIL MEETING held on Monday 24th January 2011, at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.

Also 10 members of the public, and Ros Roderigo (District Councillor)

Apologies – Mrs.Rosemary Yarrow, Messrs.David Lamb, Alan Pavey, Peter Taylor and Jenny Kenton (County Councillor) and P.C.S.O.Ben Samways.

Public time -. Residents of Chardleigh Green present thanked the Parish Councillors for their help in getting the barrels removed.

Minutes of the Parish Council meeting held on 22nd Novembe r approved as a true record, and signed,

64/10-11 PLANNING

App.10/ 05136 Mr.G.Smith, 32 Taylors Meade. Single storey rear extension. No objections subject to No access from Bench Lane.

• App.10/05095 Mr.& Mrs.D.Martin, Kimberley, Combe Wood Lane. Erection of conservatory to front of dwelling. No objections.

65/10-11 YOUTH FACILITIES

Hayley Lynch, Youth Club Leader, has received lay-out plans from S.S.D.C.Youth Officer, re possible skate/wheel park. Smaller scale plans to be requested in order that S.C.C.can be contacted with a view to using Combe Wood Recreation Field.

66/10-11 HIGHWAYS

a) Road through Wadeford from Rackstile to Cat-Tail will be closed from 21st February for 8 weeks due to a water main replacement scheme. Concern about access to the bus route for residents, but to date no temporary scheme ready by the Bus. Co. . Shops also concerned about loss of trade. Wessex Water to be contacted re further details.

b) Barrels on the Verge in Chardleigh Green have now been removed .

c) Due to the amount of snow/cold weather during December a new grit bin has been ordered for Underway/Greenway./Frog Lane junction Thanks extended to John Gilbert,/John White/Robert Blackburn and Gerry Sayers for their help in picking up bags of salt/grit from Yeovil and delivering them around the Parish. A product called `Safe Thaw` was discussed at the recent meeting in Donyatt, and Crewkerne Town Council were ordering a quantity of this, and would be able to supply this Council with 20Ltr. It is intended for pedestrian walkways rather than roads. 2 bags of sand/grit were ordered in December - 1 was left at The Haymaker carpark and 1 on The Lawns for residents use during the recent snow.

d) Chevron at top of Stoopers Hill damaged.

e) Road Junction sign on Pretty Oak main near junction with A.30 needs clearing. Nearby residents to be asked to clear overgrown vegetation.

A303 – Storm drain/culvert on Ham Hill has no cover and could be dangerous to drivers. Reported to Highways Agency.

68/10-11 CORRESPONDENCE

a) Further letter received from Sheila Wheeler, Chief Exec. of S.C.C. re cuts being made to 2011 budget.

b) S.S.D.C. - Somerset Together Meeting 3rd Feb 6.30pm at Yeovil. Lynn Osborne and Gerry Sayers will attend.

c) Letter of thanks received from Royal British Legion re recent donation.

69/10-11 Police/Crime – Report sent from P.C.S.O.Ben Samways – 1 reported theft in Wadeford. Other calls related to the recent cold/snow problems. Neighbourhood Watch and Farm Watch recommended. P.C.Andy Stuart has now been moved to Ilminster, so no Beat Officer for this Parish at the moment – all enquiries through Ben meanwhile.

a) Allotments - Half-yearly rent received from Allotments Assoc.(£200)

b) Grass cutting quotes for 2011 received from B.Powell& Sons re The Lawns and The Green - £79 per cut, + vat. It was resolved to accept this quotation.

c) Village Hall rents will increase by £1 per session from April 2011.

71/10-11 GENERAL MATTERS

a) Nearly all the street lights have needed attention following the recent very cold weather, due to the plastic light covers falling off. – apparently only happening in this Parish although similar models used elsewhere in Somerset.
