PUBLIC TIME
a) The problem of non-customer vehicles
parking outside the Village shop for quite long periods of time
was discussed, although the new car parking area for school
staff is now in operation.
b) Jenny Kenton (County Councillor)
– to help reduce costs a Consultant has been employed for 6
months to check all departments.
c) Ros Roderigo, District Councillor
– Meeting to be held on 10th Nov. for Parishes in Chard

Minutes of the Parish Council meeting
held on 26th September 2011 were approved as a true record, and

59/11 PLANNING
•
App.11/03759 Mr.K.Helyar, 1 Alterhay Cotts. Replacement 2-storey
rear extension, and erection of replacement open porch to front
elevation. No objections Clerk, Mrs.A.Hunt, declared a personal
interest.
60/11 PLAY EQUIPMENT – THE LAWNS
a) John White + 5 volunteers have
replaced the wooden surrounds around the various pieces of play
equipment.. He was thanked for arranging this and a letter of
thanks will be sent to each Volunteer.
b) The Annual Inspection report by
S.S.D.C. has been received, stating no problems with the Play
equipment, but 2 items to be monitors – cradle swing seats and
safer surfacing gaps senior swings.
61/11 SCHOOL CAR PARK
The Church users will also be made
aware to drive slowly when turning in the new car park area to
stop the top surface churning up.
62/11 HIGHWAYS
a) A meeting was held with Colin
Fletcher on 3rd October and various actions re safety on the
Wadeford Bends will be implemented shortly. Some other points
made at that time have not been addressed, and it was resolved
that Moira Vaughan would liaise with Colin Fletcher on behalf of
this Council – including – i) moving the 30mph signs on Stoopers
Hill further up near the village name sign, ii) a stop sign at
the bottom junction of Underway with Combe Hill (a further
accident happened recently at this junction) iii) white lines on
the bridge area of the Wadeford bends to make it appear
narrower.
b) Volunteer Speed Watch – request to
be made to Police to back the Volunteers as letters not always
being sent out. Visits to regular offenders used be made but now
Police state they do not have enough resources. Chairman will
contact Police.
c) Mr.Blackburn has offered to pick up
the 10 x 20kg.bags of grit/salt allocated to this Parish for
winter maintenance.
d) Letter to be sent to Somerset Waste
Partnership – re litter dropped by Collection vehicles
63/11 THE GREEN

quotations received re pollarding the Lime Tree. The trunk is
gradually hollowing, and pollardung is needed. As The Green is
within the Village Conservation Area planning permission is
required. Clerk has completed necessary forms which will now be
sent to S.S.D.C.
64/11 CORRESPONDENCE
a) S.S.D.C.- meeting with Parishes –
next meeting 10th Nov at Chard 7pm Moira Vaughan, Rosemary
Yarrow and Gerry Sayers will attend.
b) S.C.C.- Electorial Review – no
alterations for this Parish.
c) S.S.D.C.- Community Grants available
for Community based charitable groups
d) Next S.A.L.C.meeting – 12th Dec. at
Donyatt.
65/11 QUEENS DIAMOND JUBILEE
Letter received from S.A.L.C. giving
information re insurance for celebration events in June 2012,
VAT information re purchase of anything connected with Jubilee,
etc. No information yet regarding plans for this Parish. Gala
Association usually hold events such as these.
66/11 Police/Crime –
report from P.C.S.O.Ben Samways. No crime
reported for this Parish over the last month. An accident
occurred at the bottom junction of Underway and Combe Hill.

Letter received from Citizens Advice Bureau requesting donation.
It was agreed by 7 votes to 1 not to donate this year.

68/11 GENERAL MATTERS
a)
Informal meeting of Councillors was to have been held on 27th
Oct., but as consultations re Parish Plans are currently being
carried out it was decided to delay the meeting until more
information was to hand. Martin Wale, Ros Roderigo and Bob Chard
will help if required. A Parish Plan will have to be completed
at some stage. Certain aspects will have to be included, but the
document will now only need to be approx, 4 pages. Other points
could be forced upon the Parish, if certain things are not
included.
